I had to laugh. A man selling telescopic aerials attached to a plastic handle as a bomb/drugs detector has been jailed.
They cost about a fiver to make and he was flogging them for as much as £10,000. He made £millions.
But hang on. If you were buying one or more of these things wouldn't you test them, take them apart, evaluate their efficacy?
It is not possible to jail buyers for being stupid, but there are times when it should be.

I wonder if, in time, we'll get a book which tells us that he made them as a joke to see how gullible people were, then when serious people started buying them, without checking them out, he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Own up and be sued for everything he had or keep going and hope for the best.
in the end he's done jail time but will have resources. The other way round he could have been totally ruined. Of course we haven't yet seen any cases suing him. That might be funny. "So tell me sir. What testing and verification of the device did you do before you purchased it for such serious use???"

They were the purchased by the military so I understand. Whoever did so wants sacking for not having them checked out.

I just can't understand how anyone can be so stupid as to buy these gadgets without having them properly tested.
Is this a sign of the times?
I used to think it was only politicians who were so utterly incompetent, but obviously the malady is far more widespread.
