Crime in England and Wales down 10%

Shouts the BBC headline. Sky news however, goes for ''Crime Figures Drop Amid 'Fiddling' Concerns''.

Both headlines come from the same report, an estimate by the Crime Survey of England and Wales (CSEW) based on how people fell about crime and whether they have been victims of it. It shows that crime is at its lowest level since 1981.

The population in 1981 was just short of 50 million, today it is nearly 63 million; a rise of ~25%. If crime has dropped to '81 levels we must have all turned into Angels.

I prefer the Sky headline.

A few months ago I saw a child being thumped by an adult. I phoned in the incident; the police said they would call back if they decided to crime the incident. They didn't call back.
I don't believe the figures for one minute.

Massaging figures is one of the few things the government is good at. :(

Absolutely not convinced my dear friend, my neighbour was robbed by gentleman, not English who offered to carry her shopping to the car around a month ago. Two Shires have been stolen from our area over the past couple of weeks.
Dogs stolen, houses broken into, windows of shops smashed in, drug addicted violence, the police do nothing unless one is lucky enough to hit on a true cop who is dedicated in doing his job.. Not too many of them about or across the U K where crime is ignored and those supposed reports don't even get written let alone investigated and the criminal apprehended

Yes, and not just crime figures, either.

I think the reason crime figures are down is because the police have cottoned on
to the idea of just issuing warnings instead of prosecuting. There was a case recently
where a bugler had been warned several time for offences but never prosecuted. The
police then have the nerve to claim that crime figures are down. You can't trust any
figures issued by anyone today.

Yes yes yes Aggers! (quote) burglar let off!!
A burglar entered the back door of a house, and entered a babies (child's) bedroom. He was "High on drugs etc he passed out"
The man of the house heard the noise and found him out for the count, he called the police who arrived and failed to arrest him, but let him on with a warning!!!!!!  talk about crime down!
Strong arm of the law
What a mess this country is in and it is no wonder.
