Bring back the Poll tax.

The Local Government Association (LGA) wants to do away wih the single person discount of 25% on Council Tax. They do not want to do it for everyone, oh no, only those in houses in certain tax bands, so it will effectively be a post code tax with the assumption being that everyone who lives in such houses is "rich". They are not, not that that should make a jot of difference, many are just "normal". A single person does not use anything like the council services used by a family and that should be the defining factor in who pays what.

It bugs me that those who come up with these ideas are our employees, we pay their wages, yet we have no way of sacking them: none.

That's the idea. A "technocratic" group of managers telling the plebs what they are going to be allowed to do and what they have to pay. Whatever system they come up with I bet we'll end up paying more, one way or the other.

I would be quite happy is they brought back the Poll Tax.

It was a fair and logical idea, and the Government of the time should have stuck to their guns.

I was quite surprised, when reading articles on this subject, about the number of people were for the introduction of a Poll Tax or similar.

It is much fairer, just a shame the original was so badly thought out and implemented.
