Turkish mining disaster

Postby Workingman » 17 May 2014, 12:47

On Tuesday about 300 miners lost their lives, 122 were said to be injured and 18 remain missing. Where is the news, now? Gone and all but forgotten. Why?

It is a bit different from the 2010 Chilean disaster with its 24/7 coverage. There, 33 miners were trapped 800m down, in Turkey the 18 miners are only 150m down. Are there any attempts being made to rescue them, or have they been written off to add to the death toll?

An absolute tragedy, whole families lost, heartbreaking. My deepest sympathy goes to all of these people. What infuriated me was seeing the thug, the presidents bodyguard brutally kicking a mourner. It's a sick world we are living in..

What a terrible business. It is heart-breaking to see so much sorrow.

How unfortunate that it happened when they were changing shifts, so that twice as many men were down there.

However, I can't understand why their Government is getting the backlash.

So little coverage. Terrible catastrophe. No news on the uprising in Libya .
