There are plans to sell off the Land Registry. It is operating profitably which is keeping costs down.
This would change if it was sold as fat cats would want big salaries.
There is a petition which can be signed on a web site.
Am I allowed to give the details on here?

The proposal is as daft as it sounds - sell off the money making part, but keep the Office of the Chief Land Registrar, paid for by us taxpayers.

Central to any plans for the future is that we continue to protect the integrity of the register such that Land Registry’s role of underpinning the property market - by giving confidence to buyers, sellers and lenders - is not compromised.’

Chief land registrar and Land Registry chief executive Ed Lester said: ‘Land Registry’s business strategy is ambitious but achievable. The business strategy was created around customer needs and the changing face of the property market. I have confidence that by focusing on our customer needs, we would continue to improve our service delivery and make the process of dealing in land and property more efficient.’

So why does it have to be sold off if an already identified change of plan is thought to be necessary ?

Whatever will they want to privatise next? I have frequent dealings with the Land Registry and find them very helpful and their fess quite modest.
So I cannot believe they make that much profit for anyone to buy. Have noted they closed the office near here a short while ago and for some reason have dropped "HM" from their title. Have signed the petition.
