I know what you mean, saundra. It's all very depressing. The Daily Mail in particular has gone into "overdrive" regarding ebola. I often wonder why I still bother looking at their website, but it's strangely compulsive ....

"All the news in 15 minutes, every 15 minutes."

That used to be Sky's tag line: says it all really. These news channels skim the planet for any tittle-tattle and then give us the headlines without any real analysis. The BBC's infatuation with Obama and the US of A sickens me.

I often say that I'm not going to bother about watching the newa on TV.

There is rarely any good news, and there are lots of things that make me so angry
with our stupid politicians.

"Ignorance is bliss" is a very true saying.

I think that this repetition of negative news such as fighting, disease, rape in India and so on is a contributary cause towards the depression being suffered by a great many people these days. Everywhere you turn there seems to be bad things happening, but it isn't really like that. It is just the media's determination to broadcast and publish the worst of happenings in a sensationalist way. TV and the papers don't seem to be all that interested in the nice things that are happening round us every day. They don't make the headlines in the same way. We ought to hear more about things like this.

I think you have a good point there Rodo.

There is so much 'News' now, starting with 3 hours' worth of Breakfast, and they have to fill it all.
Various things around the world are dreadful at the moment - something usually is - but it makes it over-emphasised.

And today's technology means they can have reports instantly - and because they can, they feel they have to!
They talk to someone in Jordan or wherever, and 20 minutes later there they are again, being asked if there's any more news/developments.

Unfortunately good news does not sell, so we get all the bad news all the time.

Years ago things happened in the local area and stayed there, nowadays they become national news from our "end of the street reporter".

"Man bitten by Yorkshire terrier has tetanus jab! Read all about it!"

Even the local news channel is going on overdrive about any local contestant who has won a medal at the Commonwealth Games. This may have already been mentioned on the main news.
The local channel is also interrupted to have a few words about what will be in the main news bulletin.

We watch Breakfast, then the local West Country news at 6pm, and I buy the DM for their excellent crossword and Codeword puzzles.............

I agree it is depressing at the moment, and makes you feel helpless :?
