Democracy?

Boris Johnson, currently a local mayor, has decided the he WILL become an MP. Not only that, he is also going to PICK his constituency and the people he is going to represent. Once anointed he is then going to stand for leadership of the Tories when Cameron resigns, or maybe, just maybe, he will take steps to force Cameron out.
Budge up, chaps and chapesses, we have another parachutist on the way.

It sounds as though Boris wants his head examining.

Whether or not they'll find much is hotly debated.

Johnson is probably the most popular politician in England. If that seems like a big statement, can anyone think of any other politician who even approaches being popular? (Maybe Farage?)
If Boris led the Tories they'd probably be more electable, simply because he is popular.
Johnson likes to appear as a buffoon but I read his articles in the Telegraph and he comes over as having some oil in his lamp, as they used to say.

I would far rather have Boris for PM, and I say that as a life long hater of the Tory party. He is REAL in a way that hardly anyone else in public life seems to be these days.

Definitely
He does like to come across as a bit of a duffer, but you don't get to be Editor of the Spectator if you are thick
Interesting piece of trivia - as Boris was born in New York, theoretically he could apply for US citizenship and run for President

Ah but, popular as a politician or popular as a pantomime buffoon for hire?
Johnson the politician would be on the extreme right of the Conservative party on a lot of issues, yet strangely centrist on others; or is that just for show? I would not like to be middle or lower middle class, or working class, or disabled in his version of the Utopian Kingdom (UK).

Closer to the Maggie approach than any popular Tory politician since. Message there somewhere.

He couldn't be any worse than some of those we have in control now,
and would certainly be a lot better, I'm sure.

He gets my vote. He is a rebel not afraid to take on the bullies.
