Did I miss something?

Reading the I paper today I found out that Britain is on the way to becoming a Federalised state.

Where did this come from? At the last election, which party leader stood up and said that this is what he believed in, this is what is going to happen? I can't remember it featuring at all - not a single word. Yet here we are on the brink of a massive change in how we are to be ruled, a Federal UK is being presented as almost a done deal.

Shouldn't we have a vote on this?

Oh, I forgot. We did. Ten years since the Geordies voted against regionalism / federalism, but here it is back again. Never give the proles a vote eh? You might not like the outcome.

Blame the Scots - they started it.

Anyway, look at the Manchester Mayor - you don't expect to be given a binding vote on anything that matters in this country, do you? We're a democracy, dontcha know!

Over the weekend leaders of Councils have written an open letter to the Observer demanding more local powers. They say this is what populations demand. Do we? Has anybody asked us what we would like? Most of the people I know do not want more powers to be given to the numpties running local councils.

Exactly WM. The idea of anyone giving the sort of people who run Wakey council any more power or money is enough to chill your blood.

It's a farce.
