Not really, Miliband called him a "Dodgy Financier". Whilst Miliband might want to try and backtrack and say he only talked generically, in fact he made the generic statement then highlighted it with a specific example picked out of the Tory financiers.
Also I'm really unhappy about the blurring the lines between Evasion and Avoidance.
Let's be clear here. What HSBC did was Evasion and that is illegal. Avoidance, on the other hand, is totally LEGAL no matter how much people might bleat about it.
When people like Miliband talk about "Paying their way", they don't mention that these higher rate tax payers, not only paying more tax, more NI and more VAT than anyone of lower incomes, also lose their 10,000 personal tax allowance between 100k and 120k. Nice of them, I didn't know that one as I haven't earned that amount, in the UK, in any UK tax year for more than a decade.
