with this
C4 show which generated 1,000 complaints. No I seem to recall that the press count 1 complaint as == to 1,000 people who agree. Because their experience says that for every 1 person who actually writes, there are 999 who can't be bothered but hold the same views.
That means they offended at least 1 million people with their attempt to portray UKIP as something they are not and also in a role they could never take. UKIP won't be the government in May no matter what. They simply don't have the support.
However this is hopeful. Because it means that UKIP are making inroads that the C4 Labourites don't like....

I didn't watch it, I have no intention of watching left wing propaganda disguised as drama.
Speaking of drama, here's a quote from a 2009 Guardian article, from someone called Ben Stephenson. Who is he? He is the Controller of Drama Commissioning at the BBC.
"If I didn't think differently, have different ideas of what works and what doesn't, wouldn't your lives, and more importantly, your TV screens be less interesting? We need to foster peculiarity, idiosyncrasy, postcodes, my class only stubborn-mindedness, left-of-centre thinking". He denied it was a 'political' quote.
Well he would, wouldn't he?

Ah a good subject, UKIP is attacked because all those who have virtually pushed this country over the edge are afraid as UKIP is getting stronger by the day... And amazingly UKIPS greatest supporters are the elderly and aged (like me) we are the individuals who survived war, hardship, loss and pain remembering the thousands upon thousands who died, we knew the meaning of supporting each other in difficult times. Today its "dog eat dog", no sense of community, no moral compass, governed by crooks who have no conscience as they fiddle every penny to add to their coffers, and who when faced with pertinent questions regarding their intentions blubber, stutter and waffle leaving the audience as ignorant of their intentions as they themselves are.
(thanks Kaz)

Well put, Kate. I enjoyed reading that. It summed up my feelings exactly.

I notice that their ratings are currently falling in the polls. This is seen as a direct result of the C4 program.
If this is actually the case and is tracked and provable, then it will be the first fully documented event where a fictitious TV programme changed the events of a UK election. I wonder if C4 could be sued for that???
On the other hand if younger people can't separate fiction from reality (jerry springer, BB, East Enders et al, would seem to prove they can't), then where do we go from there? Do parties have to create fictitious programs about the disasters the other parties would create, so that there is a "disaster" movie for every choice??? Plus, of course, the alternate "nirvana" movie.
At least then it would muddle the airhead choice...

Peter Hitchens says that we are moving from opinion polls reflecting the views of the public to being used to influence the views of the public.
In other words, some of them are not kosher. In the last election opinion polls conducted on behalf of Conservative papers always showed the Conservatives with a lead over Labour. Opinion polls conducted on behalf of Labour supporting papers always showed a lesser lead for the Conservatives!
Do the math. The results of opinion polls seem increasingly to match the wishes of those people who are commissioning the opinion polls.

I didn't watch the TV programme referred to, but when I read about it
I was most annoyed. In my opinion, it should be a CRIMINAL OFFENCE
to put on a programme of that nature during the run-up to an election.

Cromwell, a lot of what Hitchens says boils down to how and what questions are asked.
Another is the selective presentation of questions leaning towards the results the pollsters wanted whilst those going against are not shown. The BBC is master of this tactic, especially with its own polls.
Then there is research designed to provide the answer the researcher's wanted, but presented as though it was open and fair. So we get "Is UKIP racist?" and the results show a dozen or more incidents of racist actions by UKIP members. The conclusion is that UKIP is indeed racist to the core. The hundred or thousands of incidents where UKIP was not racist or even anti-racist are totally ignored. It is not research, it is propaganda pretending to be research.

Been that way for some time now. I don't view anything politically orientated on the BBC any more. I get a better view of the UK political situation from the Times of India than I do from the BBC. That is a Sad Fact.
I remember the 70's and the joke was always "come the revolution brother". Well, in this case, if the apathetics actually did anything, it would be BBC smearmongers hanging from the lamp posts.
Our nation has been brought so low that it is only Great in terms of military might and political power in the world. There is nothing else "Great" about it.
I find that inexpressibly sad.
