Tropical storm Pam

Hammers Vanautu. Said to have been the worst storm there in living memory. However what struck me more was that when I checked yesterday on weather underground's tropical page there were 4 storms of TS or higher in close proximity to each other (relatively for such storms).

The other point which struck me was that WU have had to update their chart for sea temperatures. It used to top out at 32C but it now reaches 34C and above. As it requires water at 26C to sustain a Cat1 hurricane, I guess it's not that surprising that we see so many storms, looking at the chart.

We live in a changing world. Sadly it's not one which is changing for the better for us.

I put a post on Cafe about it yesterday. We have members who have relatives in NZ and Weka lives in Auckland.

At the time of posting Pam was a Cat5 Cyclone and had already swept through the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu and was heading for New Caledonia and NZ. What was interesting at the time was the appearance of another TS off the NE tip of Australia and another to the north in the region of Kiribati.

I now see that the TS off Australia has become a Cat2 Cyclone Nathan.

Yes and the 4th TS which has vanished now was a Cat1.

It was the proximity and the temperatures which got me.

I rarely go to Cafe so I wouldn't have seen it.
