It's now being said that the co pilot deliberately
Crashed the plane
Cant bear to think what is happening to people's minds these days
So much heart ache and grief

When the news broke on Tuesday I wondered why some much information was given so quickly and also why the media was all over the story like a rash. Things did not quite add up, but now we may know why.

The one black box so far found reveals that the pilot was locked out of the cockpit, the co-pilot activated the descent, there were voices and breathing so no de-pressurisation.

This information is from the French prosecutor who claims that the plane was crashed deliberately.

Unbelievable. Was he some sort of religious nut - I think you get my drift - or just suicidal? In which case why not just do himself in, rather than take those poor souls with him

There was a pilot suicide some years ago I think in the Atlantic, then MH 370 which probably was.

What Kaz said ...... Whatever his perceived justification, no one has the "right" to take 150 innocent people with them.

How on Earth can events like this be foreseen and avoided?

They can't be Aggers. However the entire world is now going to have to revisit the security measures of post 9/11. It is now vital that the flight crew can always get into the flight deck without any barrier. Something which was always the case before they put security doors on them.

Lufthansa are devastated. I would have put them at #1 spot in my safety map for flying with them. I have never felt anything but safe with Lufthansa and they are exceptionally professional. Now they are doing a lot of soul searching to try and work out how they stop this from happening again. They have medical tests annually, psychiatric testing, ongoing monitoring and mentoring. Now they are asking themselves if they need to monitor the families of pilots and how many pilots will agree to that??

The ramifications of this will reverberate for some time. Every airline will have to reassess after this. Even the plane manufacturers will have to decide whether or not they allow a pilot to do this when in cruise over rough terrain with a plane which is not in difficulty.

Then, over it all, grieving families of the 150 dead.

Up until recently I was flying most weekends. I have often chosen Lufthansa as a hub flight to get to where I wanted to go as their two hops were often cheaper than one on a direct flight. I was looking at a job in Barcelona and could easily have been on a flight like this.

It is a difficult one for Airlines, manufacturers and rule makers.

Reconfiguring cockpits to accommodate a lock-in for the crew, including toilets and food facilities, will be nigh on impossible. Securing the crew quarters in flight to avert a takeover, as per 9/11, has to be in place.

Carrying a third pilot to take over for toilet breaks would be massively expensive, and that would have to be passed on to passengers - would we pay for a one-in-a-million chance?

Having a cabin crew member with limited flying abilities to replace the pilot or co-pilot so that there are always two people on deck sounds good, but what if they are overcome? Statistics say the crew member would be a woman.

Psychological profiling is not fool proof and never will be. A person can be trained to give the right answers and if that person is a terrorist they will almost certainly have been trained.

The best I have come up with, so far, is that a cabin crew member is chosen at random per flight and has an override code for the cabin door via an innocent looking mobile phone kept well away from the door itself.
