The programme was approved this week at a meeting of the Labour-controlled council’s cabinet, which also agreed to continue to financially back the global Diamond League event at the city’s Alexander stadium. Some reservations were expressed that so much money was being invested in such an event when the council – the biggest local authority in Europe – is making cuts to frontline services.

The latest nonsense from my basket-case find-an-inanity-and-spend-millions-on-it local council.

3 ruddy million on promoting running!

And the migrants will happily vote Liebour back into power in 10 days time.

The only thing that will get me running is them with a 20 yard start and me with a three-pronged trident in me hand ....

Lol Os!

Councils and running, hmm. I can't help but remember the Sheffield World Student Games fiasco of 1991. Sheffield council will be paying £25 million pounds a year until 2024 for the debt they ran up on this 1991 event. The venue for the athletics was the Don Valley stadium - which has now been demolished! It was only ever full once.

It doesn't surprise me that Birmingham Council are flashing the cash though, it's what councils do on vanity projects. Wakey council is spending £100,000 on staging one leg of the Tour de blinking Yorkshire next Sunday.

Our council, having spent millions on a new office building are now planning to demolish the market hall which was only built in 1999 and replace it with more car park a cinema and a bowling alley.
They also want to revamp the central area known as Market Place to include a water feature.
