Hey! There! Teacher! Take their mobile phones.....

A study by the London School of Economics shows that test scores increased by more than 6% in schools with mobile phone bans. It also shows that those from poorer areas and low-achievers did best overall.
This is something most of us have empirically known since the early days of mobiles. Unfortunately, many head teachers and teachers want to be 'friends' to their pupils and taking away their phones is abhorrent to them.
We had a similar problem with pirate radio and "transistors" but once we got over being able to listen to Caroline, Veronica, 270 or Mi Amigo, even in lessons, we survived.
