Black bean thingy - with a twist

Postby tonicha » 08 Sep 2015, 20:45

We do like the black bean thing I do, with a bbq, but the beans we've been getting recently are rubbish, the whole thing turns to mush.

So - bright spark here had an idea - don't cook the beans

So, for tonights bbq, we had half a tin of black beans, very thoroughly rinsed off, some cold cubed, cooked block presunto, very finely diced raw onion (Grumpy doesn't have many teef  ) and cherry tomatoes, quartered.

Chucked it all in a bowl and poured over olive oil and fresh lemon juice.

Gert lush, t'was :D :D :D :D

Well the beans are already cooked Ton :)
What is the recipe, I have it somewhere but all I meant was, do other ingredients usually get cooked, or are they just to flavour the beans? So you could cook the other bits, then add the beans at the end.
Otherwise don't they sell the dried beans there? - then you could do it from scratch, which is presumably what the recipe was for?

I can't see why anything needs cooking.

I would just wash the beans, mix the ingredients, dress, and serve with whatever was cooked on the barbie.

The beans are already cooked Di, it was from a recipe I adapted anyway.

Yes, it is better warmed, but also quite good cold, so if I get some better type of beans, then it's another thing to do.

It's not that anything 'needs' cooking Wm, it's that this particular recipe is not meant to be a salad, but a vegetable side dish that's intended to be cooked ;)
And very nice it is too :)
