that's the thing though Frank - I didn't. I had slightly more of the tomatoes and appless, but the vinegar I kept at the volume stipulated by the original recipe so if anything it should have been under?

What I think my problem was is that the pot I was using has quite a large base, bigger than the ring on the hob (electric ceramic) so I think there was an issue with not enough boiling away on the edges and only in the middle really.

As for the fat fella - he can make do with mince pies and sherry; the chutney (to go with the port and cheese) I'm keeping for myself :lol: :lol: :lol:

I must be a sucker for punishment :lol: . Cleared out the greenhouse yesterday to make space for the hedgehog hutch and have got another 1.3kg of green and semi ripe / some ripe tomatoes. I'm off tomorrow as I'm having a new bedframe delivered so guess what I'll be doing - but this time letting it boil for AGES!
