Yes lol, granulated is the stuff other people put in their tea and coffee
I bought one bag in the first 3 years we were here as Dad had it in his drinks - he used to come quite a lot
Now I buy it for the 1 teaspoonful that goes in the bread
Anyway, yes there are now lots of different kinds, all sugar
Dark brown soft and light brown soft are finer and 'softer' than demerara, which is granular and crunchy. So for those it does sometimes matter which type the recipe says as it would affect the taste and possibly texture.
Gingerbread may well say dark soft brown, it would give a richer result.
Crumble would have demerara, for the crunch
