That's what Tom finds his useful for Frank. He can buy cheaper cuts, batch cook and then he's always got something in the freezer. It's ideal when he's sharing an oven and hob with four others who may all be eating something different.

Okay thanks for all the ideas, I guess it's going to be trial and error. Not sure about the temp thing either, mine is the Morphy Richards Sear and Stew 5ltrs and has hot/med/low.

I tend to cook the casserole on high for about 8hrs and it's delicious,. I fill it about 3/4 and have to admit there's never enough left to freeze  I do it as a one pot dish and we have it in big bowls and eat it as it comes. Think my confusion about covering the meat with liquid is because the few recipes that came with it, all do that :?

That's the same one I have Jen, it's brilliant as you can brown stuff first in the same pot :)
Casseroles I do on medium or low, yes it is trial and error but I think the biggest dangers are overcooking and under seasoning.

Ooh that's handy Di, you having the same SC, I'll be driving you mad with questions now  Regarding the gammon, I'll be having a go at that early next week. What temp do you cook yours on and for how long, guessing it will depend on weight :?

Jen the difference between this and oven cooking is that the temperature determines the cooking time, not the weight of the meat.
So you could cook your casserole on high for, say, 5 hours, or on low for 7, 8, or 9-10 hours.
Or start it on high for 30 mins-1 hour, then turn it to low for as long as you like.
