It's the glut season here and I have been given nearly 10 kilos :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock:

And my neighbour wanted to know if I wanted any too :lol: :lol: :lol:

I've already blanched, peeled and frozen about 5 kilos - that was the other week and as Antonia is till in Vienna, it's her tomatoes I'm getting. Dimas can't do it - he's a bloke, an Alentejana bloke, he doesn't do cooking :lol: :lol: :lol:

So, any other ideas please?

I'll still blanch and freeze some, I can use Antonia's freezer, as mine is getting rather full.

Not worth blanching tomatoes ;)
I'd make batches of cooked, pureed or just chopped - toms - unpeeled, sieve if you want after cooking.
Then you can freeze in say 4-portion packs, in plastic bags (with basil and seasoning).
Then it can be used in sauces, stews, soups, etc, plus take up far less room.

Absolutely what Di said! Pretty much what I've done with toms from the greenhouse :)

I thought the skin got tough and therefore inedible?

But Antonia asked me to blanch and freeze, so that's what I've done.

Got more coming next week :shock: :roll: and they're for me, hence me asking about different things to do with them.

I always have good intentions of making passata https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/253 ... to-passata but then get too lazy to puree the tomato so just use my blending stick and blitz the whole lot and use it for pasta sauces

keep it simple, or add herbs, add spices... all sorts of options

LOL, have you had a good tomato crop from the greenhouse, Kaz? We've picked around half a dozen so far, from 3 plants, but the ones that have ripened have been the smaller cherry tomatoes.

Aubergines have been a failure, peppers iffy, might still get the odd courgette, but the raving success has been our two chilli plants, especially the one which has produced over a dozen small, candle-like fruits. We've used them to enhance tomato based sauces, and by George they are hot! :shock: :lol:

I don't think we would know what to do with 10 kilos of tomatoes, Jan .... :lol:

Blanched, peeled, in bags, gave them to Dimas. :lol: :lol: :lol:

I'll try other stuff with the next lot we get at the week-end ;)

That's pretty much what I do Ria ;)

Ossie not a huge amount this year, not as many as last year, or the year before when I got a ton of green ones and made chutney! Lots of tiny cherry toms, the plum variety a bit iffy! Not had to buy a single tomato though :D

Our aubergines have been good, but our best crop has been miniature peppers! No courgettes this year, we forgot to get the plants in, in time :lol:
