or coffee bean grinders.

Grumpy has thought he'd get me on, but before we ask daughter to send one over, thought I'd better ask what you all think about them first.

Your thoughts please xx

I use an ancient stand-alone coffee bean grinder to break them down initially, then use a mortar and pestle, and elbow grease, to pulverise them into a powder - as best I can.

I have no idea about how good, or bad, modern spice grinders are. Sorry.

I had one like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Krups-Twin-Blad ... ee+grinder to grind coffee beans and it works really well; simple to clean and doesn't take up much space. Highly recommend it

I've e-mailed Krups in Lisbon to find out if I can buy it locally.

If not, it's a phone call to daughter - she works for Amazon :D

I've got (maybe had) the breville version if that and it's a PITA to clean, I think I've used it 3 times.

I know the score Weka.

I have a Braun whizzer stick with other attachments and I once made the mistake of trying to grind two bits of star anise in the plastic mini shredder instead of my ancient grinder. It did the job, but I could not get the smell out of the shredder for ages even after soaking it for days in sterilising fluid.

Ton, make sure the Krups has a metal lined cup.

I can't even pull mine apart to clean it, it's an all in one unit. It really is a PITA
