I have always wanted to make a raised pie, but never have. Last night on iplayer I watched Mary Berry make one on her Christmas programme. It looked simple enough, so I shall make one before Christmas

I made one a few years ago Loz, it is quite simple but does take quite a while.
Worth it though :)

I was going to buy a pork pie as usual, but I don't even like it, so this year is my raised pie year :D

Gosh it looks complicated to me, but then I'm not very patient  It does look delish however, so good luck and hope it tastes as good as it looks :D ;)

Me too......

It's a Gala pie FCOL! There is no need for pickled nuts, chicken strips or gammon steak.

Get some pork mince and mix with a bit of mace and sage and seasonings.

In a tin lined with pastry plonk in about half the pork mince, not sausage meat, and make a channel down the middle for the boiled eggs. Insert the eggs and cover with the remaining pork mince. Cut a couple of round holes in the pastry topping and cook. Pour pork jelly into the holes and leave to set. Eat!

I came to ask that too :)

Wm that may make 'a pie' but I'm sorry, it wouldn't be a proper raised pie.
The one Bb got from the butcher was absolutely lovely (it was duck, but same principle) and would not have been at all the same if it was just mince dumped in ordinary pastry in a tin

The pie turned out well thank you. I think I will make a smaller one next time as the pastry did start to fall off when I cut it. It was a bit of a faff to make, but I knew it would be, so not a problem.I enjoyed making it, we all enjoyed eating it, so all good :)
