Vocal Voices

I mentioned the other day we had a lamb curry made with a kit we happened to spot in the 99p shop.
It was really yummy; the kit had dry whole spices, a sachet of paste and another of sauce, plus a sachet of micro-basmati rice, so we assumed it was fairly pricy.
Just remembered to look it up online - it's £4.25!!

All we get is a fairly bland "caril" powder, which colours everything but tastes of nothing

A bargain Di. I tend to make all my curries from scratch, but I am not snobby about these things.

If anyone has a Home Bargains nearby they often do a range of curry kit jars by Rajah, I think. The jar has the basic sauce but the lid is like a screw on box and it contains dry spices so that the curry can be tweaked to taste. I have used quite a few and they are damned good, or to put it another way, they are miles ahead of ready meal curries.

Ton, if there are spices/pastes you cannot get in Portugal give us a shout and a survival package can be sent out.

Just back from the town, called in at the 99p shop and still some left so I bought 3
Two khadai, which we had before, and a tikka masala.

I do love making curries from scratch too, but if you only have a small pack of lamb, or 2 chicken breasts, it can be a fair bit of work. Much better when you're organised and have a nice lot of hm curry sauce in the freezer of course

I now have a cupboard full of chinese and curry sauces, oils and spices - as Aldi's were doing them cheap. Ish

And there is a shop near Cabanas that is stocking English spices. I'll have to drag himself over, to see how much they are. If they're mega dosh, then I'll ask daughter to send some over.

I have been to Home Bargains this morning and the curry kits I mentioned are by Indi, also at 99p.
