Bras

Why oh why do bra manufacturers think that older women don’t need pretty underwear? I’ve been wearing M&S bras for years, but after my surgery two years ago, I could no longer wear underwired ones, I had to let about 18 lovely bras go. Yesterday I did what I have been promising myself for two years, went into a big department store to get properly measured and invest in one “good” bra. Well - the bras I was offered were downright awful. Black, white or that vaguely orange “skin” colour, purely functional, no prettiness at all. The young lady measuring me agreed with me and was apologetic that she had nothing nicer to offer. There was one, it was kind of like a gym bra, but it was €51 and I wasn’t going to spend that on a bra I only sort of liked.

So I said sorry to the very nice young lady for wasting her time, she did say that the M&S bra I was wearing fitted very well, and she always thought they had lovely underwear. So I came home, and with the benefit of a 15% off offer, I ordered two sports bras and a pretty pink one for the same price as the expensive one. All’s well that ends well!

Osc, I can now wear underwired again so I wear either. I have found a nice line of both underwired and non underwired on Amazon. I would suggest having a look on there. Lots of choice, you may have to try and few for size but if you get free delivery and free returns, its no problem and you can try them on at home under different outfits etc

I find bras in my cup size rather matronly :? I put on weight during lockdown, and although I have mostly lost it again it hasn’t gone from where I gained on my bust. I have gone up from a 34E to an F or even G, so have moved up into the “bigger bust” styles :( I hate the big thick straps and wide back bands!

Thankfully, I didn’t have a mastectomy so it’s a bit easier for me. I actually don’t mind not wearing underwires, to be honest. Now that I know my M&S bras fit fine, I’ll continue buying from them. I’m always wary of buying something like a bra online because basically I can’t be bothered with the faff of returning it if it doesn’t fit, plus I generally seem to lose out with returns to UK because of €/£ and now post-Brexit, there could be customs charges on things bought from UK. Mainly I was bemoaning the assumption that older women don’t want nice bras.

Kaz, try M&S, they have a nice selection for ladies with larger boobs, and they do fitting too.

Thanks Osc, all my bras are from M&S. Perhaps it's just our branch re the styles :? No trying on or fitting either, probably a covid thing
