My Nomination bracelet that I had for my birthday

Postby miasmum » 23 Jul 2013, 17:01

I went into the jewellers today to buy myself a charm with a voucher I had for my birthday and a charm from Luke. The girl in the shop fitted them for me and said I will put the old links in a box for you. I happened to say, I will have enough to make a new bracelet soon and she said "but that is the whole point didn't you realise?"

Apparently in Italy where they are from, the whole point is that someone, often a mother, buys the bracelet for her daughter. As you collect the charms you end up with enough links to make a new bracelet, which you 'nominate' to another daughter or niece (she said Italians are very into family, which I did know) and so it goes on, that is why they are called Nomination bracelets.

What a lovely idea, I like it even more now, if only I had someone to nominate

I didn't know that either (not that I have one though) but what a really lovely idea and it certainly explains the name :D
Which charms have you got?

I have a gold heart, a little scottie dog, a butterfly, a bee, a flower, a white stone, a cat

then today I bought a red stone as that is my birth stone and I wanted to buy myself a charm from Luke. I thought about a tortoise, but whereas all my charms have been bought by friends thinking of me when they bought them, he can't do that, so I wanted something that could only be from him, so I bought myself a L for Luke :D

That's a really lovely idea to get an L :)
I love anything like this but I know that only one person would buy the charms - me

That's a lovely idea. I bought B a Chamilia bracelet from Samuels - similar to Pandora - and a couple of charms when she graduated college :) It's a silver bracelet and you thread the beads on - one I got said Congratulations and one was a purple bead that matched the lovely dress she wore. I'm getting one that says DAUGHTER for her birthday next week, along with other things :)

I like the Chamilia bracelets but they are just too chunky. I tried my friends first and it clattered on the keyboard and when I tried to write it dug in. Be lovely for best but I wanted one I could wear day in, day out and my Nomination is flat and fits the bill. Plus it has no clasp so it can't fall off

They would be for you Shell as you are quite delicately built, but TBH it would take two of you to make a Becky  She really suits chunkier jewellery with being quite big built and tall :)

That one is lovely for you, and just a nice idea 8-) :D :D

I don't think they are chunky in that way Kaz, my friend is even smaller than me and her's looks lovely on. But she doesn't wear it for work for the reasons I said, it clatters and bangs about
