England squad?

Midfield and forwards look OK, apart from Grealish, but the defence... OMG! Then there are the tactics.

Walker, Stones, OK. Maguire has never let England down, as such. But "Mr Backpass" Luke Shaw - give me a break. I don't know what the answer is but we have to try different combinations in the meaningless friendlies we play. Southgate didn't do that.

I was in Germany in the 70s and they always played at least three "possibles" in their friendlies. The "probables" knew that they were on notice. Only a few of the team knew that their positions were secure. That is what we should have been doing these past years.

One left back in the squad and he's been injured for months; not very reassuring.
Rashford and Henderson gone - good.
Four keepers is plainly too many.

OK-ish I suppose.

The problem with Southgate is that he is a cautious, defensively minded coach whilst our strength lies in attacking players.

Why on earth has Shaw been named? As far as I’m aware he’s not even back in training yet and the last time he was mentioned was a couple of weeks ago when it was said he’d had a set back.

Wayne Rooney hinted the other week that there are some players at the club who aren’t as badly injured as they make out, and Shaw is one who a lot of us think he’s talking about and there’s going to be a lot of anger directed towards him if he’s suddenly fit for the Euros.

And The Charlatans and Johnny Marr one week later

I read what Rooney said Jo; it's hard to disagree with.

The left-back position seems to be a problem within the Premier League and Championship, and those that do play there seem to want to be half-backs or part time wingers.

When I played there my job was to stay in my own half and work forwards wide to the outside or pass them on to a team mate on the inside. It was not to go racing forward or make risky 50:50 tackles near the half way line. It was a simple job.

I have no interest in International football, but I do wonder why they never look beyond the Prem?

And many of them are being poached by Prem clubs, only then will Mr Waistcoat look to bring some of them into the England camp.

But not if they go to Villa, Palace, Brighton you understand. They have to go to the FAs favourite clubs. We all know who they are. ;)
