Watch Ipswich Town on Match of the Day and tell me how that is fair

I’m not one to scream ‘we was robbed’ week after week like lots of fans but I’ll make an exception for yesterday. Two weeks on the trot we were reduced to 10 men. Ipswich are not a dirty team. I don’t remember us getting a red card ever in the Championship. Last week maybe (but questionable) but yesterday???

And how was Connor Chaplin being pushed to the ground not a penalty?

Both Joe and Micah agree but Leicester loving Lineker obviously not

Just spare 10 mins and watch please

You're not alone in your views - this match report from a football forum I frequent:

Ipswich Town 1 Leicester City 1
Premier League
Portman Road

Admission: Season ticket
Programme: £3.50
Attendance: 29,874 (Leicester: 2,991)

Wilk we ever get a Premier League win this season? Not likely when we continue to get very poor match officials.

In the defence of the Ref, not helped by a Leicester team who spent the last 60 minutes trying to get players sent off - which they succeeded in doing so when Phillips got a second yellow card.

Buonanotte being the worst offender, and unless clubs grip their own players this sort of cheating will continue

Hard to say, Shell. there are very few vids of the match / incidents. I was on F1 at the time...

KP is not a dirty player, but he is hard, his stats prove that.

His 'sending off / yellow cards' are rarer than hen's teeth - until now.

Thank you both

Ossie, that is the view of most on the forums I frequent. Also the pundits and the newspapers. VAR should have been used but wasnt even considered. We have a hard player in Sam Morsey our Captain, he picks up lots of yellows, but so far no reds, but he is going to have to watch out now too. I said on one forum maybe Keiran should have taken Kalvin off but as they said we had so many yellow cards, including our goalie where do you draw the line?

At least Harry Clarke's own goal from last week, has now been given to the Brentford player so that looks better for him. Just a penalty and a red card now, some prem debut for the young lad. We have so many injuries too.

Frank, I saw it on Match of the Day. Micah and Joe obviously agreed with me and most others, but Leicester loving Lineker not

Thanks for your comments

Shell, I’m with you on this.

Refereeing in the Premier League is appalling. Usually at the end of our games you’ll get a bit of clapping, cheering if we’ve won. Yesterday after the final whistle there was a loud and long rendition of “Fergie’s right, the refs are shite”.
Fofana went in late on Rashford in the box after Rashford had played the ball, studs up on his ankle. Nothing. Look at the penalty West Ham had against us last week when Ings ran into De Ligt. The ref didn’t give it but VAR intervened and we could see the ref watch the monitor multiple times, all from the same angle, and ended up changing his mind.
Even Man Utd hating Alan Shearer said it wasn’t a penalty, and the panel on Ref Watch on Sky, which includes Dermot Gallagher, on Sky all said the same.

There’s no consistency. We saw Casemiro sent off one week for an incident and when a Liverpool player did the same the following week nothing happened, and you see strange decisions in every game that you watch.

Having watched both MOTD and the EFL Show I am convinced that the refereeing in the Championship is slightly better, possibly because there is no VAR.

Referees feel freer to make decisions without them being constantly questioned so they go with what they see in real time. They do not always get things right but at least a decision has been made and everyone gets on with things. Also, the assistants (ex linesmen) actually do assist rather than just being offside monitors.

Unfortunately VAR will be in the Championship from next season.

OMG will it Frank? What a shame

I'm really confused about how I feel. As I said several times, I didnt want to come up to the Prem, but now we are here we do have to try and survive. I honestly feel we have a the makings of a great squad, and if we can survive this season we can start to build, I see us a bit like Forest although they are third, so maybe not.

Someone said the other day the journey to the Prem is far more fun than the arrival. How true.

They were showing it on Sky tonight. Penalty all day long.

I think that’s probably very true Shell. It’s not much fun, and VAR has sucked so much of the enjoyment out of the game (as well as the poor officiating on the pitch). You get a goal and celebrate and a minute later the announcement is made that VAR is checking a possible foul/offside/whatever, and there have been times when we’ve waited three or four minutes for a VAR review to take place.

Listening to my podcast today and they were saying who actually wants VAR? Not the fans, the players or the managers.

It was meant to stop bad decisions, but it seems to have made things worse.

Frank I have tried googling VAR in the Championship but all I can find are 2022 articles about it being used in the EFL finals. Do you have more information?

i did mention it to my friend who is a huge QPR supporter, he is there tonight, but he hadnt heard anything

Thank you
