Lionel Messi is coming to Leeds!

For the chaps here

Lionel Messi is coming to Leeds!

Well, to Morley Town AFC to be precise. The lads have clubbed together and offered him £179 billion and free pies on a seven year contract.

You think that's mad, wait for the real news.

Messi wants to leave Barca and the get-out clause is a snip at €700m. He is 33 with a year left on his contract and might, just might, have a couple of years left in his legs. No club is going to come anywhere close to meeting that demand and he will be a disruptive influence at a club already falling apart. Barca might as well let him go on a 'free'. They have had good service from him since he was 14 and he will not be going to any of their direct rivals. His time is nearly over and the swing in football is going back to teamwork and not a few individual stars.

You can never write the "old dogs" off, though. I'm reminded of Barry Hayles - integral to Fulham's Premiership team back in the early 2000's and capped as an international for Jamaica. At the age of 47, he's still playing, for Isthmian League Merstham these days and last season, prior to Covid made 11 appearances and scored 1 goal. I remember seeing him play for Truro City at Stourbridge back in 2011 or so, and he was still whippet-quick in attack then, terrorised the defence, and got his name on the score-sheet if I remember correctly ... :D

Best of luck to Morley!

I love his enthusiam for football, Mad Pat’s that is....I don’t know much about Ollie Bayliss.

Back to Barcelona holding on to Messi, I suppose that he’s a bit of a cash cow for them when it comes to shirt sales and merchandise.
