Ferguson to retire at season's end.

As a Leeds lad I shouldn't really say this, but he has been a great manager - probably the greatest club manager anywhere and at any time.

I remember him taking over at Man U, and the poor third full season, after a mediocre second, had me praying for him to be sacked because I knew, I just knew..... Sadly the board backed him and the rest is history.

I hope he enjoys his retirement as I raise my glass to him - to SAF!

I'm interested in who is going to replace him. They reckon it will be Moyes don't they. PNE was never the same after Moyes left. I hope he gets the job.

Jose Mourinho? I pity whoever it will be, though .....

No, it won't be him.

As a United supporter, what a few days it's been! Before I go on, can I just clarify that I'm not a post-1993 glory hunter and up until the boys were born I regularly went to games. Thank you

No way would Mourinho have been right for the club. After a couple of years he'd have got fed up, or fallen out with someone, and decided to go elsewhere. I think the whole feel of the club would've changed with him in control too. Next season the ship is going to rock, the last thing we need is someone who is going to capsize it.

I'm not sure who my first choice would've been, none of the ex-players who've gone into management have the experience, but the more I think about David Moyes the more I think he's the right man for the job. I just hope that if/when the results aren't going our way he'll be given the time that Alex Ferguson was given.

Monday afternoon I'm heading up to Manchester to see United's parade through the city. I wasn't going to go but in light of the developments this week I couldn't not go now.

Oh, and if Rooney wants to go (again) then they should just cash in on him this time.

Moyes is definitely the right man. It was a good choice.

Yes, I think if anyone comes up with the money then ManU will sell Rooney. I never really cared much for old bacon face (being a Leeds fan like WM), but he is the best British manager ever and I don't think we'll see his like again.
They should have hired Neil Warnock! ;)
