All being well, the Ostrich will be celebrating his 65th at the Dog and Duck Stadium tomorrow!

Bet it won't be making Gary Lineker's Match of the Day on the Beeb, though ...

The Dog and Duck? Are they a pub team? ;)

We drew one all. Not bad as Burnley were in the Prem last season.

The Dog & Duck's actually a largish Beefeater pub, coupled with a Premier Inn, on the London Road next to the rather posh Wellingborough School (founded 1595). The ground's behind the pub. Don't let AFC Rushden & Diamonds hear you calling them a pub team, they're far more pretentious than that.

Somewhat cheaper than Leeds United, £5 oldie concession for this ancient bird. A clash of two teams promoted into the Southern League Division 1 this season, so both clubs will probably be pretty satisfied with the result, also a 1-1 draw. Rushden reasonably dominated the first half, but simply couldn't find the net. Then they slightly lost the plot at the start of the second half and inevitably Petersfield Town took the lead (sharply angled header from a deep cross). Rushden managed to force an equaliser (close range header from a corner) and then spent the last 15 minutes frantically pounding Petersfield Town for the winner, but the Rams grimly held on for the draw - a fair result.

Keep posting on your footie travels Ossie as I really enjoy reading them. :D

We lived in Northampton for a few years and followed Northampton Town FC - The Cobblers.

They made it to the Wembley play offs against Grimsby (I think 1997?) but they lost 0 - 1.
It was a fab day out though and it seemed like the whole of Northampton was in London that day!

This thread reminded me that it was at the R&D ground that I went to to buy the tickets for Wembley. :D :D :D :D

Happy footy!

Happy Sky's Soccer Saturday is back - we've been huge fans of this for years. :D :D :D :D

No doubt another 9 months of angst for Don & Conor being as they are Birmingham City fans.

LOL, I bet it was Ally! I presume that was the "old" Wembley Stadium. I've not managed to visit the "new" one yet, but Master O has, for a play-off game. He signed up for Rochdale Supporters Club (!) to get hold of a ticket, and even now, I think they still write to him every Xmas and try to sell him raffle tickets!

My Dad was a staunch Aston Villa fan from the 1930's and 1940's. The first game he ever took me to was Aston Villa v Leeds, back when I was about 8 or 9. Needless to say, at 15, I became a "Bluenoze" :D (ask D if he remembers Trevor Hockey and Barry Bridges - might be a bit before his time, though ....)

Full circle, Master O in turn has become an Aston Villa supporter (although he can't afford to go watch them ......). So like the rest of the modern generation, it's all computers and the Championship Manager game ....

Yes Ossie - it was the old stadium and a fab day out was had by us all. :D :D

I adore going to football stadiums. :D :D

Craig, our eldest, is an Aston Villa fan (his dad is) and Don and Conor are staunch Birmingham City fans..you can imagine the tension when it was a derby match. :o

Likewise I'm a Glasgow Rangers fan through and through - Don and Conor are Celtic fans!

Imagine the tension when it was an Old Firm Game.

Knife and atmosphere spring to mind.

I mentioned those names to Don Ossie - he's now muttering about going into the basement and looking out all his old Blues programmes!

Noooooooooooo

I remember Trevor Hockey! He used to look like a werewolf with his long hair and full beard!

He was quite a "robust" player!
