I shouted. A lot.

Great, they saved them £70.

BUT THEYRE STILL SPENDING £190 A WEEK ON FOOD.

God knows how - they seemed to live on sausages and bread!

I can't wait to see this, watching Mick swear and shout at the telly will be more fun than the programme :P

I think the thing was, they said they wanted to build an extension; they'd worked it all out and it would cost them about £40 a week extra, so that was the amount they wanted to be able to save, rather than the most that could be saved.

So the 'experts' easily took £70 off, which meant they could more than afford that £40 a week - and hopefully opened their eyes a bit as to just how much they were frittering away.

Di hit the nail on the head. The 'target' for saving was so easy to achieve that no 'experts' were needed, all they did was play up to said target and then gain a bit extra. It would not have taken much more effort for the savings to have been around the £100 mark.

In its defence, however, the programme did as other programmes have done, and that was to debunk some of the urban myths about food. The bit about reconstituted fruit juices v "fresh" was one, and paying top money does not always get the highest quality was another.

Next week's couple look a right pair of numpties. :D :D :D

It did make some good points Wm.

The butchers' sausages must depend on what part of the country you're in though - the farm shop ones are the cheapest anywhere here and are £4.95 per kg. I use that as a guide for when they reduce them on the W/rose butchers counter ;)
Actually virtually the only sausages we buy are expensive but reduced :D

Looking forward to next week already

 The new deli-style butchers in town here has a sign up outside "Spend £12 in our deli and get 1lb of Gloucester sausage free!"

I know I have a terrible mind but it makes me giggle every time I walk past.................  :P

   the mind boggles

The few sausages I eat come from the market butcher's and are 80% pork - they are a treat not a staple. I now make my own burgers from best mince using a burger press I got for £1 from, err, Poundland! :D :P :D
