Even Mac's were impacted but only when running both IE and Symantec Security. Because Mac's come with Safari built in, anyone using a Mac with IE has an alternative browser.

I saw several postings to that effect. This is much more in the business world where they must use IE to access business websites which only support IE and not other browsers. Nobody in business who is not totally Mac, supports Safari for business websites. Because producers of 3rd party products like web based communities traditionally only support IE, most Business Mac users have IE.

This was nothing to do with Microsoft. It was totally Symantec/Norton.

apparently IE is not available for Mac as it is a Windows propriety system. So thats probably why we escaped unscathed, as we usually do to be honest

It can be had and people still run it as they have little other choice when dealing with corporate software.

Since development finished in 2005, Internet Explorer for Mac doesn't offer even the most basic features that you would consider a prerequisite on any browser nowadays like tabs, extensions, saved sessions or private data management.
No longer an option for Mac
There are absolutely no compelling reasons to use Internet Explorer for Mac. If you've just switched from Windows to Mac, try one of the browsers suggested above instead.
Recent changes
This latest version — version 5.2.3 — enhances browser compatibility for users who work on a network with secure authentication or with proxy servers. It also provides all the latest security and performance enhancements for Internet Explorer 5 for Mac OS X.
Notes
Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and does not provide further security or performance updates.

My husbands comments:-
The above is off the link you posted Suff. Why on earth would anyone run a system that has not been updated for 10 years. This is asking for trouble, especially with the security leak ridden Windows software.

Yes it is insane to run something that old.

However, when you have a business critical website which only accepts IE as a browser and you insist on using a Mac, then you have no choice.

Most people, today, use parallels (virtual machine software), to run Windows IE encapsulated in the MAC. Of course if you use Symantec as your security, then the Parallels would be impacted too.

But, again, there are those who insist on using a Mac but have no choice other than to use out of date Microsoft browser software. It is what it is. Business computing is like that.
