Why, oh why, is the PM so obsessed with Gay Marriage ?

Is he balmy ?

And why is so much emphasis being put on religion - this is a matter of common sense.

It's against all laws of nature for a man to marry a man. How daft can you get ?

Surely our David should be commited ?

He is trying to be modern.

As an Atheist I could not care less for how religions view this, they have shifting sands as far as the Word of God is concerned.

What I cannot understand is why the Civil Partnership is not enough for gays. It offers everything that "marriage" offers, in Law, yet they want to make it a religious argument.

I see this as pandering to Stonewall lobbyists, and others, who want to cause division.

They can call it what they like, but in no way is it a marriage.

Why don't homosexuals and lesbians just stick with their civil partnerships anyway.

He is trying to adopt modern, liberal attitudes.
Whether this be sticking a windmill on his house, becoming a member of the Anti-Fascist League, legalising gay marriage or whatever.
It is an attempt to distance himself from the old "nasty Tory" image.
It will fail insofar as the liberal left will always still hate him, just because he is a Tory.

I do think gay people should have the right to Civil Partnership, to give them rights in law, and now they have those rights, which to my mind is only right and fair.

However I don't see how you can expect religions to agree to or condone something which goes against their teachings......that seems wrong to me. I married Mick in a registry office as I was a divorcee and many vicars would not have wanted to marry us in church. That's their right, IMHO

I suspect there's more than a few Tories who will be falling out with Cameron over this. And he's already totally alienated the RC Church, who quite correctly IMO have their knives out for him now ....

It's not right that a man and a woman cannot enter into a Civil Partnership! It's discrimination!

CP does not have the same rights as 'marriage':

Consummation is not a requirement.
Adultery is not recognised.
There's no requirement to take vows.
In many cases it's not recognised abroad.
CP does not carry the same pension rights.

I think that if they do extend the concept of marriage to same sex couples by law, there will have to be alterations to adultery law, because adultery law specifies heterosexual relationships only.

The whole thing will be Cameron's lasting legacy. It will be the only thing he will have acheived in Government.

It will cause needless problems imo. An article in the Telegraph yesterday said that despite government assurances vicars may be prosecuted if they refuse to marry gay people, registry office staff may lose their jobs if they do they same, etc, etc.

This is too much for me. Why should people be sacked for following their beliefs?
