Paedophiles tend to prey on those who are pre-puberty, whether they be male or female.

Child abusers tend to target vulnerable females, mostly, from outside their own communities.

They are similar, but not the same.

Beg to differ slightly, Kate in that "No one will ever recover" from abuse as a child. I cannot recall any particular effect bad or otherwise and I have really only recalled the incidents due to the recent furore over the subject. I think a lot of memories could be jogged when some compensation might be involved.
But then I was at a public school and things were different in many ways. I recall one boy showing us the dreadful weals on his bottom from a caning, he had to stand in class for a week, I expect if a master did that today he would be jailed. Of course if injury or much fear is involved then I would concede it could have a lasting effect.
