But why is it unthinkable that they could have had something to do with it? It could not possibly be that they are doctors, could it? Many people have had wrong done to them by doctors. Could their intelligence prevent them from committing harm? Maybe, except that those who have been killed or maimed by intelligent people are legend. Does their status as solidly middle-class citizens disallow harmful behaviour? It should not; the middle-classes have been known to be extremely violent.
The truth is that there is no rhyme or reason why parents harm or kill their children, and those who do come from every strata within society. Nobody is ruled in, and nobody is ruled out, and statistically it is our nearest and dearest who are the most likely to cause us harm. NSPCC figures show that roughly one child per week dies at the hands of its parents or guardians.
I am not saying, and have not said, that they killed her, but I reserve judgement on their innocence in the matter.
