I feel a bit for the Judge and Magistrates who are effectively trapped by the Law.

For me, social services cut off all control of the children by banning the father and put themselves in the position of intermediaries between father and mother. If the mother did not tell them about the trip they had nothing to pass on to the father and should have been supporting him in court. They should also now come down on the mother like the proverbial ton of bricks, but we all know that will not happen.
