The local MP for Harwich informs us that only 6% of lorries passing through the port are checked.

The union head for Immigration and Customs tells us that Dover and Folkestone are so locked down that other ports are now targeted. She cites Tilbury and Harwich.

The government says 41,000 such foreigners were stopped in the year leading to April 2015. It admits to not knowing how many were not stopped.

But back to the Harwich 68. The media variously describes them as "migrants", "immigrants" or "people". What game is being played here? They are "illegal immigrants" or "bogus asylum seekers" or both. They have no entry papers and, coming from the Netherlands, they have already passed through many safe havens. They are not our problem. Some of them are ill and in need of treatment, but once fit they should all be put on coaches and sent back to the Netherlands.

We should do exactly the same with those coming in from France. No processing necessary, turn them round and march them onto the first ferry back. And keep doing it day, after day, after day.

Well, call me a wet old Liberal if you must, but I think putting the drivers and illegals back in the lorries and dumping them in the Atlantic would certainly be a deterrent..

Trucks and drivers in the Atlantic may work. But the illegal immigrants need to go right back to where they started without a penny to their names. That is the only way that this will finally be resolved.

I see the BBC has found new ways to define these criminals. They are now stowaways, which is similar in effect to calling car thieves "joyriders"; it lessens the severity of what they are doing. They are also described as "clandestine" in a We Willy Winky way, sneaking about but no real problem.

There is an agenda here to tug at our heart strings, or at the very least make us think of these illegal immigrants and bogus asylum seekers in a neutral way.

I'm totally neutral. I don't want to kill them and I only want them to go away once and never have to do it again. I don't want to stick them in camps or prison. Just remove them back to where they came from.

After all, a one way ticket home has got to be a LOT cheaper than camps and benefits and food and everything else that goes with it, crime etc....

We could even use RAF air movements and not even have to pay for a civilian ticket...

Unless we make a firm stand and ensure all these people are delivered back to their countries of origin, then the situation will only get worse. I am amazed that David Cameron has actually refused for the UK to take a share of the refugees, as this country is usually the first to roll over and lie down in these situations. A hard line regrettably is the only way forward.

There was a time when I would have said "take them all, until we burst". The problem is that when that finally happens, there will be so many of them that they vote for MP's who will continue and exacerbate the situation, as we see with London today.

There are at least 500m people living in poverty or under tyranny. The population of the entire EU is around 540m.

Simply put, they can't all come over to the EU. They need to stay and work it out at home. Something I was discussing with a Black colleague at work. He agrees that it would be better to give real help, not money or food, for enough time to allow the people to make it on their own.

Not that this will change the direction of the idiots.
