Hmm, didn't think of that. There could be many other ways of neutering the SNP. Interesting.

It was something enraged NO supporters said immediately after the NO vote when Cameron stood up and mooted the whole EV concept which had never been mentioned in the entire campaign.

Basically the question asked was "Could there ever be another Scottish UK Chancellor if Cameron managed to get this vote through?". There was no conclusive answer but my take is "No". Which is why I believe the SNP do not want full fiscal autonomy at this time. Shades of Greece would be the end result.

To be honest the parallels with Greece and a Scotland in the UK but "not in the UK" would be so like Greece, in the EU, as a member of the Euro; as to make virtually no difference. Notably Scotland also has the highest fiscal debt of any part of the UK. Probably in anticipation of Oil revenues gained from an Independence referendum.

It's all very convoluted and Political and so I don't trust any of it.

If it was offered though, could they refuse it without looking like fools? The SNP want independence, so how can they turn down full control over Scotland's finances?

They could where North Sea oil is a separate part of the economy.

The reality would be that the Scots would have full fiscal responsibility with only part of the revenues and no control over currency.

A bit like the Greek situation but worse.

Would you allow yourself to be trapped that way?
