My idea of an efficient United Nations organisation goes a lot further than
just dealing with the immigrants who take to the boats to travel to Europe.

An Ideal U.N. would tackle the root cause of the apparent need for Africans
to travel to Europe. There would be an effective UN Army who would police
all countries and deal with upstarts like the so-called Islamic State terrorists.

Without such a global organisation, peace in the world is impossible, IMO, but
I have doubts whether it could ever materialise.

The UN already has a High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) but it is tasked with helping refugees not with sorting out the root causes in their home countries or why people elect to become refugees. I do not see that changing any time soon.

My fear is that at some point a society will decide to take the problem away from its politicians and deal with it itself.

Reading some of my mid 90's Science Fiction, the author postulated that the pressures of falling off the climate cliff would cause so many issues that religious fundamentalism would rise and sweep the planet. Driving most into subsistence level living and a religious elite with all the power and benefits.

That fate is there awaiting us unless we take the steps to balance the world now, both climate and population. War and strife, fundamentalism and imperialism.

I grew up in a world at threat of nuclear annihilation, threatened by a huge and undemocratic soviet block who's whole idea was to change the world into it's own image by force.

My best years have been in a world which threw off the chains of nuclear oppression and dared to try and be something new.

I will leave this world in fear, pain and suffering. Unless the governments of the world and the UN, the body which is supposed to facilitate intra nation relations without war, step up and start to resolve the fundamental issues facing the world today.

That will never happen so long as the rulers who have to make this happen only care about how many votes they will get in 1/2/3/4/5, years time and how they can appease the voters to get their votes.

I don't weep for this world any more. I prepare my family for what must surely come. Forewarned is forearmed. Prepared is alive.
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those who understand Binary and those who do not.

My children have also been made aware.

M&S are looking for a place with land in order to make themselves self-sufficient. Sadly, very few have that option and many will perish. Those who do survive will have to be very hard in the way they deal with the not-haves.

Being rich, or of the elite, will not offer any protection.

The meek might well inherit the Earth.
