EU poll: Majority say "leave".

OK, the poll was for the Daily Mail, but it was not of DM readers.

The margin is small at 51% Leave to 49% Stay, but the main thing is that immigration is cited as the main reason for leaving. The margin will be even bigger if the government does not get on top of immigration as almost half of those currently voting to stay in could change their minds if nothing is done.

The figures, if nothing is done, are remarkably similar to other recent polls asking whether the UK should take in more immigrants - about 75% No to 25% Yes.

Politicians can only march out of step with the people for so long.

True, but the "Isn't uncontrolled immigration just wonderful" campaign is going strong and imo it is going to get ramped up even higher.

We are at the start of a crisis that is going to go on for decades, and if the EU screws it up then we will vote to leave, no error.

The big unknown in those figures are the 17% "clueless"....

However, should this come down to uncontrolled immigration and blackmail from other EU countries, I think that WM is right. The vote will split down the immigration line and we'll be out two years after it.

I'm all for these EU countries blackmailing Cameron and I'm all for him caving on the immigration front because of it. That's because I know the end result of it and I think the short term cost of Cameron caving will be massively offset by the long term benefit of getting rid of that shower of losers....

If I am reading the mood correctly then immigration will be the the main topic during the referendum.

The politicians, media, NGO's and charities have read this one the wrong way.

We Britons are not racist xenophobic bigots, as is always claimed, but we have had enough. We are now prepared to stand up and say: "enough is enough, no more".

We are definitely not against genuine asylum seekers or refugees, but we are against the illegals, the chancers... It is a shame that TPTB cannot differentiate between them.

A point to remember is that there are many areas in Britain, such as parts of Birmingham,
where there is a predominance of people of an ethnic origin, and their views on taking in
asylum seekers or refugees might be quite different from those of traditional Brits.

Honestly and without prejudice?

My experience is that a large proportion of these "ethnics" Are Prejudiced, bigoted and racist. They may want "some" of the immigrants but they certainly don't want them all. Notably they are not "British" in their tolerance of all creeds and colours.

This is painful personal experience speaking here and a case of my own good will and openness to all being abused against me. Not any racism on my part... Worse that I had to say that!!!

From what I have heard in TV interviews with similar people - they feel as most of us do and don't want a larger influx of refugees.
