I swear I'm going to snog our vet.

For those non-humans who share our home

I swear I'm going to snog our vet.

:D :D :D

We have just been over to pick Millie up after yet another balloon dilation procedure.

He is really, really pleased with her and has managed to dilate to 7mm today (which means nothing to me but he is very pleased). He has put her on a new feeding regime and asked us to continue with the ID (we were going to change as it is just so expensive). And to encourage us to stick at it he has given us a tray of 12 tins of 12 and 12 tins of another very high fat food to help boost her up - probably around £40 worth of food in total.

He doesn't want to see her again until next Friday, possibly to carry out another dilation, but has said that I am to ring him on Wednesday to have a chat about how she is going. But we must ring if we are having any concerns in the meantime.

I mentioned that I would struggle with the feeding on Thursday as I am out all day (adoption panel followed by governors meetings) so he has booked her into the surgery for the day and says that if we take her food and medication with her the nurses will look after her and there will be no charge. He says that she is as good as gold in the cage and all the staff love her so no one minds looking after her.

He also said that we weren't to worry about money as we are at the limit of our insurance now. He is going to put it through as two separate claims and see if the insurance company will accept it but if not he says that as they have made so much money out of little Millie they will do a couple of dilation procedures free and any others at a reduced cost. He said that no way will we be stopping the treatment because of cost - we have all come too far for that.

He reminded us that we weren't to worry about her weight - that if it went down that wasn't ideal but it doesnt matter. The main thing is sorting out her throat and that it will take months of hard work feeding wise to get her back to her old weight and we couldn't rush that.

I could snog him, I really could.

What a wonderful man!

Is this the emergency vets you took her to the night of her accident?

So glad she's done so well today :D

Yes it is Jo.

We had used them before for our old dog Cassie but when we had Millie we moved to another one - simply because it was easier for us (although it was further away it was easier for us to get to for routine things as it was close to somewhere that Mick works a lot). They were brilliant but on the night of the accident I just took her to the closest vet.

They really have been fantastic and we will be sticking with them now.

It sounds like they'll miss Miliie when she's not needing her treatments ;)

Oh blimey Debih just go ahead and give him that snog - aah, unless that might reduce the freebies of course ;)
How brilliant, you always trust/hope that vets are vets because they genuinely care a lot, but it doesn't always seem the case.

Must say we've been very happy with the one Minnie goes to, and she also made sure we go back when she will be there.
It was telling that she said if it was her dog she'd want the treatment to start 'now' so that was why she'd called us back the same day, literally phoned the minute they'd analysed the blood.

I think the most important question to ask the vet is "if it was your dog/cat/hamster/etc what would you do".

Dan has been really honest with us the whole way through - he has said that this should work but it will be a long, hard slog - for us as probably more so that Millie. But he says that she is worth it - everyone says their dog is wonderful (and they are) but he says that Millie really does have something special about her - she has just let them get on with looking after her and never complained once. She just sits there and hands them a paw to put an injection in.

The only time she objects is when she is on a drip - and she bites them out!
