Disgusting speculation by the media.

Postby Workingman » 21 Sep 2015, 16:07

There is a gas blast at a house in Derbyshire. Two bodies, husband and wife, are found. No post-mortem has been carried out, but the police say the woman was "wounded" before the blast. Both bodies were in the bedroom at the time of the blast.

From that we get "Woman in house blast murdered, say police!"

No they have not! They said she was already wounded, not what the wound was.

I would like to know why the police have given this information out. How is it of any public concern? And why have the media concluded "Murder!"?

The police say that specially trained officers are working with the families. I am not bloody surprised! They have lost loved ones, but now people they know will be speculating that the husband killed the wife. Rumours will abound. At a time when they need to reflect and come together they will now be suspicious of each other.

There needs to be some serious knocking together of heads and PDQ.

Absolutely fair comment, WM - the police are far too quick to make "statements" these days ....

My question is why did the police feel it necessary to reveal this information and then for the media to jump to conclusions?

There was no need, none at all, till the post mortem results were known. These actions can prejudice cases.

If it was a murder and a suicide, there are better ways of doing that than blowing up the house.
