Hurricane Patricia

Hurricane Patricia is expected to reach the Mexican coast at Puerto Vallarta today.

Winds could reach 240mph, half a metre of rainfall; it could be the most destructive storm ever.

Well, the DM will be absolutely ecstatic! .......

But seriously though, let's hope it doesn't cause too much damage to a relatively poor country.

Is it not unusual to have such hurricanes on the Pacific side of Mexico? I wonder if the remnants of it might ease the Californian drought.

It all depends on what you call most destructive.

Was it Haiyan in 2013 which killed 11,801 and caused $686m (£443m) of damage in Vietnam and the Philippines, or Katrina which had 1,833 fatalities and caused damage worth $108bn in the US.

Sky thinks it was Katrina, but that was in the US.

Sky thinks it was Katrina, but that was in the US. I tend to differ.
