Millie and the Kong

Postby debih » 03 Feb 2013, 22:53

I bought Millie a Kong yesterday.

I was telling the vet on Friday, how when she was a puppy I used to put biscuits in a Kong and then smear some cheese spread on the top and put it in the freezer. We then gave it to her when we went out. I asked if I could do the same thing (minus the biscuits) to keep her entertained as she is so bored.

He thought it would be a really good idea as it would keep her mind occupied and if we put some of the tinned dog food in it would also help boost her food intake. So yesterday I bought a medium sized Kong, put some dog food in it and put it in the freezer.

We gave it to her about an hour ago to see how she got on with it before I leave her with one tomorrow.

It has been hilarious. First of all it was too cold for her so she whined until Mick warmed it up. All was then fine until she got just over half way down and it was harder to get at. So she decided that maybe by growling at it it would scare the food into coming out. No luck. Lets bark at it instead. Still no luck.

It didn't take her long to wise up to the fact that if she picked it up and threw it down on the floor little bits of food would come out.

An hour on she is still growling at it, bashing it on the floor, tail wagging having a whale of a time with it. It will definitely keep her entertained when we are out and hopefully relieve some of the boredom - she isn't used to being in the house so much as she usually either goes to work with Mick or goes to my mums or sisters.

I really must video it as it is so funny.

That's what Minnie usually has her afternoon and evening biscuits in Debih - just 2 winalot small mix ones.
She had a small kong, but last year we got her a medium as she used to have the tesco biscuits and winalot are a different shape and size.
Now if we put them in whole she will do that, bash it about, throw it around the room, and eventually dump it at our feet demanding that we do something :)
I hope she gets to do that again.

How is she this evening Di? I have been thinking about her all evening and you - I know exactly what you are going through and it is so, so hard and you feel so helpless.

Did she manage to get any more food down today?

Debbie, that's so funny
Billy throws his around too and on the tiled kitchen floor it bounces randomly which causes him a fair bit of confusion as he tries to catch it
