they should now take a look at how these Syrians treat help and support.
These people illegally entered Cyprus and entered an active British Military base illegally. Now they are being treated well but not being allowed to leave. So what do they do? Destroy the tents and other amenities they have been given. Abuse the hospitality they have been shown, threaten to kill themselves?
Sadly I take a military view on this. Want to kill yourself? Be my guest. It will get you out in a box. Job done.
It's time that these people understood that just because their country is at war does not mean that the laws of the rest of the world do not apply to them.
Fortunately neither the government nor the military is backing down on this one.
These people have modern smart phones with active subscriptions and are able to connect to the Cypriot mobile phone network. My level of sympathy was low and is getting lower. We've seen this kind of behaviour before in the UK where immigrants burned out accommodation they were given. Personally I'd hve given them tents winter or summer and told them to get on with it. In Cyprus, given they have burned the tents, I'd give them blankets and tell them to go make a tent out of them....
I won't bow to blackmail or terrorism. This is both...
