Millie - update

Postby debih » 05 Feb 2013, 17:29

Some good news about doggies (and hopefully news to encourage Di with Minnie).

Millie is doing really well since her last op. Saturday she got through 2 large tins of the ID and two small tins of the AD dog foods and wasn't sick at all.

Sunday wasn't quite as good - she was sick after her second meal, then managed to find some pork scratchings in the car which made her sick. Then in the afternoon she got through to the neighbours who is constantly leaving meat out for cats (and rats!! - I keep telling her that she is just encouraging the rats but she won't listen) and she was sick after eating chicken skin and bones.

Yesterday she was sick after the Kong. It never dawned on me that once the frozen dog food had thawed she would be able to get it out easily and scoff the lot - thus making her sick.   So now she is only allowed the frozen Kong when we are home.

So far today she has had 1 3/4 tins of both the ID and the AD (her aim each day is for two tins of both - only £7 worth of food a day   ) and will also have her Kong later. And no vomitting.

The lack of vomiting is more to do with how we are feeding her rather than her ability to swallow. She is having just under 1/4 tin at a time, mixed with water and we are holding the bowl at head height and taking it away after a few seconds to give her chance to swallow what she has taken and then putting the bowl back. It takes around 5 minutes to feed her like this but its worth it if she can keep it down.

We weighed her this evening and she is now 11.8kg (she was 11.45kg last Wednesday).

And she is much more lively - she wants to go out for walks, she is playing with her toys again (she has managed to rip the arms and legs off her monkey again) and attacks the Kong with much vigour.

She is a completely different dog to the one we had only two weeks ago.

I have to ring Dan the vet tomorrow to give him an update and for him to decide if he wants her in again on Friday for another balloon dilation or if he will leave it a little longer (he is conscious that he is struggling with the veins in her legs for the IV). And she is off to the vets for the day on Thursday so the girls there can look after her whilst I am out all day - free of charge!

That's lovely to read Debih, and as you say you get used to how to feed.
Let's hope it's not too long before she can cost you just a bit less too :)

Btw I did have a look at the Honeys site, it might be worth you ringing to have a chat with them just in case they've experienced something similar?
Huge hugs for Millie

That's so good to read Debbie!!! :D Well done Millie for gaining some weight!!
You know Deb, I'm hoping she can have a break from needing a dilation this week - I know it's all necessary for her treatment but still, it's not nice for her is it.
Give her a fuss from me, bless her :D
