The point is Shell, he was lying by a pool when he should have been here doing his job! Whether that was from his office in London or at the scene is a moot point. He's angered a lot of people, by what appears to be a cavalier attitude, and should have more common sense really :?

For someone at the very top like this, part of their role is to be a figure head, to be seem showing some leadership...

Why insult the Royal Family they have not caused the damned floods.

When did I insult the royal family??????

Kaz I agree with you he should have been doing his job. But nowadays with technology he can do it from anywhere. That's all I'm saying

Ah yes, but he needs to be seen doing it Shell, that's the thing, although I very much get your point about technology and being able to work from anywhere :)

I agree with both sides.

He should have come back, if only to show solidarity with his staff who were dealing with the problems, he is the head of the organisation after all.

As for him, Royalty, politicians, Archbishops and other interested parties turning up at the scene at the hight of the crisis. No! Stay away! You are more trouble than you are worth.

The same goes for the number of news crews and journalists, as well as "rubber neckers" with their smartphone cameras. One crew allowed in, with the images syndicated to all other news outlets kept well away from the immediate vicinity. There were shots the other day of Kay Burley being taken round York in a dinghy pulled by the emergency services so that "we could see for ourselves". Stupidity of the 1st degree.

Now this I certainly agree with. Some of the crass, often dumb and sometimes merciless interviewing of victims who are trying to cope with everything that had happened to them is bordering on despicable.

It's the same with court reporting. I'm often surprised that more reporters and their equipment don't find themselves forcibly propelled over the nearest wall.

I don't think William and Harry turned up too late when it came to working and giving support to those working on the derelict properties to be lived in by ex servicemen, or Harry who spends time in the third world helping wherever he can.William who I believe pilots an Air ambulance helicopter . Be thankful that we have a Royal family not all of whom can be perfect particularly Andrew and his offsprings who I have little time for. But Thank God for our wonderful Queen.
What a life!!!! You can have it.. Just imagine President B'Liar. Or Cameron, or Cordyn. Mind what you wish for..

Kate, I was not having a go at William and Harry or Royalty in general.

I was having a go at those from on high who feel a need to be seen, to apparently be doing something when disasters strike. They actually get in the way and obstruct the work being done, and it is all in aid of a photo shoot, a PR opportunity. It is not as if they do anything practical, and do not forget there is an entourage with them, all of whom need catering for.

and I never even mentioned royalty so I am still waiting for find out what you took exception to in my post Kate?

I mentioned the Queen Mother and the blitz, but that was all, I certainly did not insult anyone.

On the news the other night, there was a householder sweeping water out of her house and as a car went past the flow back just made it worse than before she started

Let's be fair about this.
We can't criticize Royalty for taking the trouble to get out and show their subjects that they sympathise with
them in their time of misfortune. It is what any decent person would do.
Personally, I'd sooner have the royal family running this country than the crap we seem to get in Government.
