As well as sugar tax?

And possibly some form of pricing of "junk food"?

All of these things are killing us (allegedly) yet the government is happy to tax them.

Chief Medical Officer, Dame Sally Davies, says there is no safe limit: not even a sip, so shouldn't alcohol be taken off the shelves: pronto?

Wait, there is a get-out, or two.

1st. There is no "safe" limit for "some" cancers and someone, somewhere, "could" get cancer from one drink. We do not know how many, per capita - it might be 1:10,000,000.

2nd. These are only guidelines, not legally enforceable limits, so do carry on.

The increase in risks associated with imbibing double the new recommended lower limits are very small.

Quite honestly, we're all going to die of something. I think a pundit on the BBC said there's a greater risk of contracting cancer by eating 2 bacon sandwiches a week.

At the end of the day, you pays yer money and takes yer choice. (Caveat: this may well alter in the future if the Nanny State ultimately triumphs.)

As it happens, I'm to all intents and purposes teetotal, and have never smoked. Death by bacon sandwich would certainly be my preferred option.

Start with smoking, move on to junk food, then sugar, then alcohol.

We, the government, will not ban them, but if you go over our limits we will tax them or charge you for treatment if you exceed our limits.

I would not put it past them.
