I'm convinced that man will eventually destroy this planet, or at least turn it into a
literal Hell on Earth. All the signs are there, and atomic war would certainly make
that happen earlier, but might be a blessing in disguise.

Sorry to sound so pessimistic, but I find it impossible to be optimistic about the future
of this planet, although I am quite happy now in my own little world.

Aggers, I was going to post in similar vein.

All-out nuclear war would be the end of many of us. The main casualties would be in the bigger cities were, ironically, the richest choose to live. The main survivors would be nomads, bushmen and those who now live on the margins - the meek will inherit the Earth - after some time.

The other catastrophe, which Suff and I fear, will do for all of us.

So, a nuclear war might, as you say, eventually be a blessing in disguise - not much of a choice, eh?

The only creatures which don't adjust to nuclear irradiation are humans. Ironic isn't it. Apparently the glow in the dark wolves from around Chernobyl are quite something to see.

Perhaps faster but more disastrous for the other animals; the way we are poisoning the sea will create great oxygen dead zones. The sea produces half of the planets viable oxygen. Therefore rather a lot of dead oxygen breathers.

I recall a statement in one of Clive Cusslers books. He stated that with the current political situation around the world the following would be true.

If there were a rogue algae which was smothering the sea and reducing oxygen output, which was doubling in size every day.

Then

In the current political environment nothing would be truly done until half the sea was covered in algae.

Then we would have one day to resolve it.

Stupid is as stupid does....
