He really, really has no idea what the majority of people in this country feel about immigration - either that or he doesn't care.

Maybe the Tories are on the wrong tack. They should be trying to woo the working classes as it is they who have been hardest hit by the unfettered immigration policies of Labour - there are many more of them than there are immigrants.

There are now so many immigrants and first and second generation immigrants in the country that old fashioned anti-immigration conservatism is dead. They calculate that it has to be, otherwise you are a couple of million votes behind in any general election before you start.
Plus, big business wants an ever bigger population. The quickest and easiest way to do that is to allow mass immigration - hello there, Mr Blair!
Plus, the Tories have always seen themselves as the party of business. But, as they allow ever more natural Labour voters in, that means they must change to become more immigrant friendly.
As for the rest of us, the white working class is like a faithful, badly treated old dog. Hopefully looking from one human to the next and hoping for a stroke, not a kick.
