You know when your kids are little and you get no time to yourselves but know that when they're teenagers they'll be off doing their own thing and won't want to go anywhere with you?
Yeah.
We just mentioned to Tom and Joe that we (me and John) are heading into Birmingham this afternoon and it's now turned into a family outing - they've invited theirselves along

Jo, my experience is that children become more dependent once they become independent. You ain't seen nothing yet. ;)

Saundra, it is turning out nice here, but a bit muggy.

So Jackie's daughter flies to Ibiza tomorrow to celebrate her 21st.

Except she's lost her passport!!

Cue Jackie now waiting to ring Liverpool or Peterborough passport offices to see if they can get an emergency appointment.

Oh flip, don't say that

When we booked our holiday we told the kids that this was the last family one, they're on their own after this (obviously we're paying and we're having to pay adult prices for their flights, attraction tickets etc and it gets a bit expensive!).
Anyway, we were there in Birmingham yesterday having coffee when John said to them "Me and your Mom are planning on going to Ireland for a few days next Summer, seeing as she had to stay home this year."
Tom sat quietly for a moment before saying "I might come with you..."

Oh no Ally! Really hope it can be sorted in time for her.

John's Mom was taking the oldest grandson to see the family in the US one year, he'd be about 15 at the time and had never been to the US or met the family from there. John took them to the airport and rang me to say that he was having to bring her back. She hadn't got the correct visa with her being Irish by birth, I think there was some confusion caused by flying into Canada (nearest major airport to the family is Toronto) and then crossing the border to where they live in the US.
Richard was fine and got on the plane, leaving his grandmother at security  That was a Saturday so John had to take a day off work on the Monday to take her to the US Embassy in London for a visa and then she flew the next day
